YALSA's WebinarsAbout the Event
LGBTQ teens experience marginalization on a daily basis. Navigating the transition from childhood to adulthood can be challenging enough, but for teens that identify as LGBTQ, adolescence can be an especially difficult time. For many LGBTQ teens the library is a critical resource to help them explore their questions in a safe environment.
Join Megan Honig for a look into inside library services to LGBTQ teens. Megan will explore who LGBTQ teens are and will discuss the broad range of experiences among LGBTQ teens. She’ll discuss what needs LGBTQ teens bring to the library and how the library can meet those needs through collection development, programming and advocacy. Megan will also address how to manage staff and patron concerns. Participants will learn to identify the common information needs of LGBTQ teens and how to develop strategies for supporting LGBTQ teens’ safety and well-being in library spaces.
This webinar will address 3 areas of the YALSA Competencies:
- Knowledge of client group
- Knowledge of materials
- Services
