Speaker's Bio/Recent Trainings
Justine Shaffner is BCR’s public library market coordinator. Her focus is on the challenges public libraries are facing and helping develop BCR products, services and training that will turn these challenges into success stories. She stays in touch with the needs of all sizes of public libraries through her blog “The Librarian is IN” and BCR’s Public Libraries Advisory Group. Working with smaller, economically-challenged libraries to help them increase and update their public computers through the Gates Online Opportunity Hardware grants also informs her perspective as does her role as coordinator for the Plinkit Collaborative, a multistate cooperative that helps smaller public libraries develop inexpensive or free customized websites.
Justine has an MLS from Simmons College, Boston, with more than 10 years experience in public library reference/adult services, including working with virtual reference for six years as the chair of the AskColorado Steering Committee. Prior to that she was a director for a small library in New Hampshire and spent a number of years working in for-profit businesses in finance and administration.
