About the Event
Library instruction no longer takes place only at the library. In this workshop, Meredith Farkas will show you how you can use devices like smartphones and tablets as tools for a new, dynamic type of library instruction. With the advent of mobile devices, you can take library instruction directly to library users, no matter where they are. Mobile technologies allow libraries to create game-based library orientations, engage students in the classroom, and provide valuable instructional outreach. After presenting an overview of how some libraries are already using mobile technologies to provide instruction to their users, Farkas will guide you in the use of mobile technologies for teaching and learning at your own library.
Topics include:
- Mobile learning
- Library applications of mobile technologies for learning
- Orientations and tours
- Point of need instruction
- In-class use
- Instructional outreach
- Considerations for the use of mobile devices in library instruction
Cost: $55
