Oregon has an incredible geological history stretching over the past 150 million years. Scott Burns
will talk about where Oregon came from and relate it to the Juan de Fuca plate off of the Pacific
coast. There are over ten provinces in Oregon, each with its own exciting geology. Scott will weave
a story of where each of those provinces came from and how they evolved together. Learn about
the interesting geological points of interest in the state and how each fits into the state’s history.
Scott will discuss such places as Crater Lake, John Day Fossil Beds, Crack in the Ground, Hole in
the Ground, Fort Rock, Oregon Caves, the Columbia Gorge, the Matterhorn of the Wallowas, the
Oregon Coast, the Alvord Desert, the Steen Mountains, the Painted Hills, the Owyhee, and Bay
Ocean, the city that fell into the ocean, and many more exciting places.
